Welcome indeed. there certainly are some great trails in this region
When it seems like the night will last forever
And there's nothing left to do but count the years
When the strings of my heart start to sever
And stones fall from my eyes instead of tears
I will walk alone by the black muddy river
And dream me a dream of my own

Chuckz: In post #16, p2, in this thread I listed the places I know of. Here's a lil more detail:

Bong Rec includes two State campgrounds and is 4,700 acres; roughly 7-1/2sqmi. Some nice hiking trails. Nice thing about SE WI is you can see every type of terrain we have, all in a day hike. Have to hang at a campsite n not all of them are hangable. Still there are some very nice sites for hangin.

Stars driftin across the sky, fire burnin low, wind gently rockin my 'mock. Yotes howlin harmonies in the distance, Great Horned Owls singin a duet nearby. Crickets providin the back beat Ah, great times!!!

Northern Kettle Moraine has some real nice sites n trails as well, plus more hills.

Up in Langlade, not as much terrain variety. Been goin there since I was knee high unto a grasshopper. In the lowlands; Sphagnum Moss, Tamaracks n wet feet. On the hills; either pines or hardwoods. Beautiful landscapes, amazing wildlife. Bald Eagles, Bobcats, Wolves, Otters, Beavers, Loons. Black Bear precautions are in order but the hunters keep 'em polite. ;-]

Dunno if the BWCA makes me miss Langlade more or if it's the other way around!
You guys ever hear of a little town called Wilmot??? Thats where I used to call home. We also had a place a little better known the the town, Wilmot Mountain Ski Area. Little place but loved it as a kid.
You mention "Bong Airforce Base". This place is great. A friend of mine is a pilot and we used to fly over Bong and do stunts in a little Aerobat. Better then any rollercoaster in the world. Plus the camp ground is great. Lots of room to do anything. Spent many a night there back in the day.

Been thru Wilmot a million times. Where the Fox River crosses Hwy C. Gander Mt used to have a store n a used gear store right behind it. Bowfished carp just east of MB on C

Put a lot of miles on a lot of boots out at Bong. Taken quite a few pheas plus other game out there. Have crib notes on more than half the campsites too. Hangable, shade, breeze, flood plain, crowds, etc.

I'd post a list of the best sites to hang at Bong but it would mean more competition for my favs!!

I used to work at Gander Mtn when I was in high school. Got killer deals on gear through the employee store. Don't list your spots. That would kill you in the long run. I made that mistake once with a training/shooting spot. Turned into a dump in the space of 3 years and then shut down. Almost made me cry.
Used to live in sight of the bridge going over the Fox. Lots of big catfish in that river if you fish. Also coming up soon you will be able to have 100 fish days on that river in the spring. Literally tons of panfish come into the river there to spawn. Takes me back thinking about all these things. Almost makes me homesick-------ALMOST. LOL

Yeah, had that experience with sharin spots before. Such a bummer.

Never knew they had such a great spring run. Fished the Fox a few times with mixed results, mostly summertime. Panfish n Walleye are tops in my book. Cats n Bass not far behind 'em.

    Thanks to everyone who posted!
