The ENO hotspot looks interesting. Not a bad price either. 9oz, small pack size.

I'll stick with my 8.5oz Baby Orca IX UQ. It cost more than the hotspot, is slightly lighter, and I already have it!

I'm headed to Joanns for ripstop to make the SPE I thought of, oddly enough the Hotspot is very close to what I envisioned but with one pad. We will see, I will post pics when I'm done and have a weight.

    Thanks,

Not a complaint as I understand the issues but as an observation you are paying $29 for something the can be a DIY project for ~ $10-15. less if the dollar bin works.

    Thanks,

If weight is an issue, Joann's ripstop is pretty heavy at 1.9oz/sq yd. Polyester lining material might be cheaper and about the same weight...

Any polyester or nylon would work fine, the SPE won't be under that much strain.

I still occasionally use my SPE to augment my UQ when it's really cold. The SPE works very well. In fact, I plan on using mine when I pass through the Smokies this spring. Since I may face the possibility of being forced to sleep in a shelter I plan on carrying a Thermarest for insulation. For every other area I'll be using an UQ. A SPE is a really handy thing to have.
