only had the blackbird out four times, but the standard seems right on for me, took a while to get the angles right and teh slack right, but I think I got a good idea now...

Shortened mine a bit once and the bug-net got saggy. I went back to where it was. all good.

The ridgeline length directly affects the bugnet as well. Shorten the provided ridgeline and the bugnet sags. Lengthen the ridgeline, and the bugnet is stressed and could actually rip on you. This happened to me once.
Leave it alone becuase it's where it's supposed to be.
I don't have any issues with the bug net sagging on my BB, even after shortening the RL a bit.
You're pulling the ends of the hammock closer together, so the net is definitely catching some slack. Not a problem in any way though. Only when you lengthen the ridgeline. I tore 2 inches of the net from the hem at the end of my blackbird because I lengthened the ridgeline a good bit.
5 wraps of the RL around a carabiner did the trick for me. Totally changed the whole lay for me. So comfortable!
In the couple years since I got my BB the "production" ridge line has shrunk an inch or two. Just saying there is room to fiddle but be carefully if going longer as it will play with the tension of things like Taylor mentioned.

yep, pgib and taylo - i've tried like you.
netting tossed back, though, i've made a detachable ridgeline, and extending the length of the hammock body is a bit more forgiving.
i like a longer rl, but can't do it in the BB, which is a shame, because i believe its the best feature rich hammock. - so i deal with the added sag for the shelf and well designed tieouts.
if brandon had the time, space and desire- i'd order mine custom with a 108" ridgeline, or something to that effect.
