You're Invited! Pine Grove Furnace State Park Spring MAHHA , APRIL 27-29, 2012
MAHHA (Mid Atlantic Hammock Hangers Association) held a public demonstration here last year on the basics of hammock style camping. We had over 75 hangers in attendance and demonstrated all sorts of items used for hammock camping to the public. Check out the video from last year here.
Pre-hang hike..... although a public demonstration is not planned, a hike from Caledonia State Park to Pine Grove Furnace, about 20 miles, is on the schedule for those who can arrange it. We will meet at Caledonia on Thursday morning the 26th and head to PGF to arrive Friday afternoon/evening. This section of trail is quite easy and should provide ample opportunity to get to know fellow hangers.
Pine Grove Furnace State Park is in southeast PA, only 2 hours north of Harpers Ferry, WV, on the Appalachian Trail. PGF is the home of the Appalachian Trail Museum which recently opened in the old Grist Mill. A beautiful park, it has two lakes, a bike path connecting them, a family campground, and much more. It will provide all you need for a great weekend.

Hopefully everyone will have arrived in time for a Saturday morning breakfast headed up by Dutch and Bummer72. The furnace stack pavilion has been reserved for the breakfast and dinner.
A Saturday evening potluck dinner with everyone and a raffle hosted by Peter Pan are anticipated agenda items. Bring something for the potluck to share and something for the raffle if you wish. Proceeds from the raffle after expenses for the weekend are taken care of will go to Hammockforums and the AT Museum to help continue their fine work.
The hang sites have been reserved. Three sites, A,B,C, in the organized group camping area have been reserved for the group hang. The area should hold 100 or more hangers. Last year we had two sites and had over 75 hangers! There is plenty of room for tenters as well, so bring the family. If you want to stay in the campground, you can reserve a site through the DCNR website. The group hang sites will be paid for by the raffle monies.
Find the hammockforums thread about the Spring MAHHA 2012 here.
Checkout the planning Google spreadsheets that will help us plan the weekend. Find it here. There are two tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet...one for attendance sign up, one for the breakfast and potluck help. If you're sure you'll be attending and would like a custom made name tag...PM [O]tter who has volunteered to make them for the group.
If you're willing to help, please contact the folks on the spreadsheet or sign up on the items needed and someone will contact you.
Come and join us at PGF in April. A Hike from Caledonia, hanging, lots of hangers, fun, lots of food, gear raffle, great location, and good memories to come!
