Gear hammocks

I have some leftover ripstop from my UQ and thought I might make a gear hammock. Any ideas on a good size for maybe a pack and boots. What's your thoughts on it.

I'd say about double the size of a pack cover. Sounds like a solid idea.

Seuss said something that got me thinking: How could he make a gear hammock that would double as a pack cover?

I came up with a few ideas, but this is the best one I had because it's so simple. I just took a rectangle piece of silnylon and sewed a drawstring channel around the perimeter, leaving openings at the corners to pull the drawstring through. It works!

Final measurements are 47"W x 58"L, and it weighs 3.5 oz with the drawstring wet. I'll probably need 2 x 9' lengths of extra line to hang it as a hammock, though.

Depends on what you want to use it for. I made a small one for snacks,waterbottle....and hang it from the ridgeline under my tarp.

+1 on the Just Jeff idea.

I made one, ok helped make one

... and its multi-purpose. Use it as a pack cover, gear hammock, and added mitten hooks to all 4 corners and I can use it as an UQ protector from rain water splashing on to it. Used it on one camping trip so far and no rain was in that forecast.... yup, a gear hammock it was for that trip. Very happy with it!

I was planning to make one & saw this thread. Pulled my pack out of storage & found my REI pack cover. Two small mods (a wrap on the bag end and a loop through the draw cord end) and it now doubles as a gear sling. Only need to bring some extra para cord along to hang it. Cost to convert it was zip.

Thinking about it... I might try this with my gi poncho...
