Paracord for Whoopie/UCR ?

Is 550 paracord strong enough to be used as a whoopie sling or UCR? (im lazy and don't feel like ordering anything - i already have the 550)

NO! It stretches, holds water when wet, and it not strong enough to be used for hammock suspension. Good thing you asked before trying this.

You're going to get a lot of No's. To add to what Joey said, for whoopies and UCR's you need something with a hollow core plus to account for the dynamic forces that can be applied to hammock suspension it's safer to have something with a weight rating at least 4 or 5 times the weight that will be applied to it.

I used paracord in my suspension (with descender rings) for a few years with no problems. However...I was hanging at the park one afternoon and BOTH ends of my suspension snapped within minutes of each other--apparently I strung things a bit tighter than normal. I use Amsteel now.

So here's the question: Are you hanging in the backyard, on a dry day, less than 6" off the ground, with a suspension that has not been exposed to much rain and/or sun, and is the possibility of ending up sprawled on the ground acceptable to you? And are you 200 pounds or fewer? If you answered no to any of the above, I'd recommend strongly against paracord.
