Hey all. I am an asst scoutmaster. This year for summer camp our scouts chose a place with few if any available trees. Does anyone know of a good portable stand ? Since its going to be in June I will be using my ENO single as far as size.

Check out the thread "Turtleladys bamboo stand" it's not just about bamboo and it's awesome.

Yosemite Sam: Yer deerrrnnn right I don't!
Thanks Jazilla, that looks awesome and pretty simple. I think I'll give it a try unless someone posts an even better idea. Thanks again for pointing it out.
One problem I did have with that stand. I made my poles too short. It works great with gathered end hammocks but not so well with my bridge. Got to make the ridge pole longer also on mine for my bridge hammock.

I've always been partial to this stand: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=8758
Dutch: Hammock is probably more weight but who wants to lay on the ground? I pee on the ground.
tripods with rigid ridge. I have one made with 1/2 inch emt conduit for home and car camping.
I haven't tried it yet, but have intended for some time to just use the 10 foot ridge in some other configurations.
* Alone, hung from branch or other above..
* Suspended on each end from tree or other.
I did this at home on one end by drilling a hole in the top of a desk right next to one of the legs, I ran a six foot piece of 3/4 emt down through that and bound it to the leg, and then lashed the ridgepole to the upright on one end and hung it from a tripod on the other.
* One of both laying on a window sill with a nail on either side to keep in place, tripod or other on the other end.
I attach to the ridge via a Klemheist or Icicle hitch for quick easy adjusting.
I find 5' poles for the tripods to be a bit short.
perhaps a sticky for portable stands. There seems to be so many great ideas. Sure would be convenient to have them all in one location.
I appreciate your wish to find things, I really do.
However there is little I hate more in forums than every page being half full of stickies, seriously it really sucks.
One good sticky for all forums would be an instruction on how to use google.

Another fellow scouter stuck with camping in council areas, no trees.... what is BSA coming too lol? There is a link to a picture I made for a portable 2x4 stand I use for council camping (definately car camping item) and hammock trialing.
One of the nice features, no board under the spine (I use pad underneath when trying new suspension or hammock), so I remain fully ambulatory, rather than ambulanced.

.... the Aardvark (earth pig)... a rather unremarkable creature whose sole claim to fame is that it is the first animal listed in the dictionary.
