    Zing-it splicing tricks

I just got some Zing-It in the mail today. I've spent some time fooling with it and it is frustrating the crap out of me. I first set out to make 2 continuous loops for prussik knots. I also tried making a locked brummel on the end of my continuous ridge line.

I can create the locked brummel but I cannot seem to find a way to bury the ends back inside. I was using some wire, and thought it might be too thick so I went to some 60 pound fishing braid with not any better luck. I will get the end an inch or so inside the rope and everything seems to lock up and I cannot continue to milk the line over the end I am burying. It gets too tight.

What am I doing wrong? Is there some trick to doing this right?

You are NOT along with the frustration. I use a Stainless steel wire I got from a friend. It is used as "safety wire" on his race bike. But, I have also read people using guitar string.
    Hope it helps
Now you know why it's called "Zing It"

Why do I get the end I'm burying about an inch and and then it locks up tight and I can't continue to milk it because the strands become so tight?

I just use a needle and a pair of very small vice grips.

I use a size 16 tapestry needle, it has a blunt point, pull it through with pliers. Not the easiest but doable.

If I pull on the wire to much, It will tighten up on me too. Just go easy. Also, I try to work the outer line over the wire, as I pull on the wire. Once it start moving, just go easy.

I use a fishing leader, and that seems to work for me.

Trick's I found for the bury are, just at the end of the bury end I thin it out by cutting a strand or two. And when I pull it through I try to keep it bunched up and not milk it through. Bunching it I find keeps the inside diameter large and makes it easy to pull through.

    Hope that helps.

The trick is the taper... You need to cut 1/2 the strands out or when it folds over it gets too thick...

Taper, guitar string, and patience. It's frustrating at first, but eventually something clicks and it gets easier. Trust me, I'm on my third spool.
