I have a really light pop-up kennel for my dog when we have gone car camping. Haven't tried it under the hammock because she's small enough to go in with me. I just make sure to line the bottom of the kennel with a chunk of ccf and sometimes a fleece throw. My dog really likes her kennel so she feels better when she has a "home" or place to call her own.

I wouldn't bother trying to snug up with a dog that size. Neither of you would be very comfortable. I have enough trouble with a 70lb dog and I'm only 120lb.

How about a CCF mat on the floor right next to you? My dog prefers that to sleeping in the hammock with me. I tie his leash to my ridgeline and cover him with my waterproof jacket for a little insulation. Newfies should be comfortable in some pretty low temperatures. They're built like highland cattle!

Never knew how lucky I am. My 60lb Deutsch Drahthaar (think scruffy German Shorthair.) put his chin on my 'mock n gave me the ol sad puppy dog eyes routine. He's been hangin ever since. When he jumps up (only after I give permission.) it barely swings. Only downside is if he hears an animal in the bushes, he launches for all he's worth!

You don't hang with a Newfie, you ride it into camp
