    making closed loops

I was making some loops to use as prusiks to attach my tarp to my ridgeline. I used a fishing knot that I call the double uni. Im not sure if that is the official name. Im not sure how its going to work with hammocks but Ive found it very capable of holding two strands of fishing line together. So I'll put it up to the forum, what knots/methods have you found to be the best for making simple closed loops of line?

(also, that line came with an ENO bugnet, any idea what it is? it seems sturdy)

    with two m's, like "hammock."

I like using the double/triple fisherman's knot and the figure 8 bend knot.

For loops I also use double fisherman's knot.
I have used a uni in fly fishing.

The uni knot is fine for this application, although it is a bit bulky.

I use the fishermans as other do. Most of the loops I make are from ZingIt and are continuous loops. I believe Opie has a tutorial somewhere around here. I'll look for it and re-post if I find it.

(Too many "I"s in response to "your" question, yikes! Gonna work on that one)

When using anything spliceable I tend to splice it. But in the field or with non-spliceable line I use a Zeppelin Bend, its easy, secure, and can be untied fairly easily after a load has been on it. Its a little bulky, but that doesn't bother me.
    Good luck,

A couple of the zing-it prusiks loops I use, one is a soft shackle prusik with a Dutch ridgeline biner. The other has a loop on each end, I use for ridgelines and guylines with the Nite-ize 0 sbiners.

For strength and weight the Dutch biner is really hard to beat. My intent for looping the other shackle back on itself was to bascially double the load capacity of the nylon biner so I could use it on a ridgeline but found it also worked well for clipping my doors shut to my main guylines. I use 6 of these clip/loop combo's on my winter tarp they total less than 9gm.

When I make knots in single braid, I like to finish them by burying the bitter end(s). There's a symbiosis there...the knot locks the bury, and the bury insures the knot won't slip. Burying the bitter ends prevents a lot of tangles, too.

I used the double fisherman's knot for my prussic loops at first but ultimately spliced continuous loops to finnish them off nice and neat.

The double fishermans is a good strong knot it is what climbers use on things like hex nuts that are used as fall protection. I wouldn't trust my life to it if it were not very strong.

You can see the knots on the hex nuts on this page.
