First hang! So what if its in the yard?

The mailman was good to me yesterday. I received my first two hammocks but didn't have enough time to setup both so I setup the Hennessy UL backpacker asym. After watching so many youtube vids (thanks Shug, Grizz, SGT Rock and others) setup was a snap. The only mistake I made was not "milking the bury" after I set the whoopie slings. Realized my mistake instantly when I tried to get into the hammock and my rear started to sink.
Below is a picture of my first hammock hang.

Here's a pic of my ugly marlin spike hitch but it worked!

My wife helped with uploading the pics and posted before I was ready so here's the rest of it. Last night got down to about 38*F. I did allright, used my Kelty lightyear 0* down bag, exped 7 downmat, and a thick fleece blanket. Fleece blanket was wrapped around the exped and layered on top of it. Sleeping bag was used as a top quilt and it worked out pretty well. I never got cold but my rear got cool and my left shoulder too. This is the first time I've slept comfortably outdoors since I was a kid. Woody, our resident woodpecker, woke me up at about 0630 this morning. Nice hang all together, no slippage, didn't wake up on the ground and nothing broke. Will work on tying my tarps out tighter but thats about the only thing that I would change... so far....

Nothing wrong with the yard, as long as your getting out, testing, and enjoying. Wish I had the trees!! Great pictures

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a backyard hang. I did one myself last night.

I don't have mature trees, but I do have 4x4 posts holding up my patio cover, so that's what I use. Anything is better than nothing.

The best place to test out a new setup is in your backyard. This way if your setup isn't up to par you can just go inside to the warmth of your house.

Absolutely! Me and the kids hang in the back yard quite a bit. We hung out last night with a couple of friends (see my other post). There were a few overly cool feet by morning but nobody bailed and went inside.

Steve D - I forgot to mention my two younger kids were out with me last night. They were in their tents though. I will be converting them from the dark side when they're ready. They were both snug as bugs in a rug. Neither bailed until Woody woke them up this morning. They went in for breakfast. Thanks for the positive remarks!

Awesome! Keep it up Joizee!! Havin' yer kids camp with ya is the best. We started taking our oldest when she was about 3 and started taking our youngest before she could walk. Keep 'em warm and you're usually good to go. Just wait till one of 'em says "Hey dad, can we hang out in the yard this weekend?"
