We came, cars loaded to the roof, we saw dozens of lovely pine trees, we had a blast. We will do this again here, probably October.

    Highlights

    Super Stove Smackdown
cardo got just a little tiny bit carried away with stoves. Fortunately, the picnic table was concrete, so there were no consequences to having half a dozen stoves all going at once.

Later on we were treated to meld's Backcountry Boiler.

    Gear Groupie Gathering

Besides cardo's impressive stove collection, we had Mac's Molly pack represented (meld and dblhmmck both tried my MMP on), Mt. Laurel gear, Gossamer Gear, Ti Goat, Dutchware, 2QzQ, and of course a whole flock of Warbonnet blackbirds: three if I counted right. OES tarps, JRB quilts and tarps.

And I was totally stoked that other people had discovered my favorite shoes: Inov8.

    Fine Food Frenzy

I dropped the ball on the general potluck idea, but Amity and dblhmmck came through with hummus and port, Nancy with bundt cake. I inflicted my pastys on the group and then soothed them with mulled wine.

    (Amity's yummy breakfast)

    Trip report video coming soon.

    2nd That Thought

It was the 1st time since I stated hanging in 2003, that I was around a group of people who knew the joy of Hammock Hanging.

It was Hennessy, Clark and Spear back at that point, and I was blown away to see 1st hand how this industry has grown.

Besides meeting great people with the same passion for outdoors, & hammocks, there was a wealth of information on stoves, knots, & lightweight backpacking.

I'm looking forward to the next hang at Bogg Mt. in October. I don't think the weather could have been better, but that's why we live in California.

Here are a few of the pictures I was able to take while there.

What a great trip! Wish I were there. Funny, my wife is between you and the bay area now and I'm at home with the kids for the week. Wish it were reversed...

I am SO glad that I made it to the Boggs Moutain hang!
Thanks to each the Bogg's Mountain group for making it so much fun last week-end! Each of us seemed to share several other interests besides hammocks.

There was an enjoyable evening of story telling around a large fire, and beautiful star gazing that night with totally clear skies. Next morning there were some unusual bird calls. One with a pre-historic twang to it, I have no idea what it was.

My brief hikes were through some unusual woods dominated by Pine and Douglas Fir, but containing large clusters of manzanita all the same height, around seven feet. They usually occur much more interspersed, and of varied heights. There was also a Madrone along that hike that was freakishly tall! It seemed to me it must have been over 40 feet. Maybe Meld can help confirm or deny this, because I think he photographed it.

Plus, once again, my GF said it was the best night sleep in a hammock yet! So a huge success of a hammock hang for several reasons. Thanks all of you!

    Biggest Madrone

Yep, that's it, Meld! Both trunks in the foreground belong to the same tree. The leafing branches were only at the top.

Hey, that's where I left my cup. Does anyone still have it?
