Fair Weather or just anytime in summer I hang ridgeline just above head hieght and pitch in porch mode. With a 12x12 tarp I can have alot of room even with sideways rain.

Winter time when it turns cold I bring it down as far as I can and will pitch it steep closing in the corners to act as make shift doors. This with a SB used as pod over the foot of the hammock and my DIY UQ/TQ (about 35* for each) had me warm enough to cause a bit of sweat in 24* temps with a constant breeze.
*Heaven best have trees, because I plan to lounge for eternity.

More than two miles high every chance I get.

I usually shoot for about 6-8" above my hammock ridgeline (while I'm not in my hammock) when I get in I probably have a foot between my hammock ridgeline and tarp.

Foul weather, darn close to my ridge line.
    Mixed weather, about head height
Good weather, about head height, often rolled up, ready to deploy into porch mode or steeper.

With a 'Dutch like' setup (hook on one end, fig 9 on the other it is relatively easy to lower in case it needs to)

Me being 6.1 and using a JRB 8x8....
Winter: eeh... looking for a new tarp, sold my old ones..... can still control my HG Cuben urge ...... barely.....

Just above head height for myself. I also am 6'3' tall and getting to the point where I don't like to be hunched over anymore. I do enough of that in hotel showers :{( But I am going to try out DemostiX's idea since I also have a Clark hammock and tarp, except I went with the big tarp.
