Question Need some input and tips on staying warm. Please

Well I am going to hang out this weekend with the little man’s Scout Troop. It is going to get down into the mid to low twenties. I need some pointers and tips to stay warm in the WBBB without a underquilt. I am on a low budget as of right now. Any help or tips would be great.

Sounds like some combination of ccf pad and space blanket best you can hope for without under quilt - but, have you already rejected an old sleeping bag as make-shift UQ?

Cheapest solution I can think of would be CCF pad(s) with a SPE.

Here is an item often overlooked; eat a big, high in calories for the evening meal.
Insulation keeps the heat you generate in, but cannot itself generate heat.

Of course that doesn't mean you can sleep in a hammock with no insulation but it's an important piece of the overall equation.

I agree that the quickest & cheapest insulation is going to be a few closed cell foam pads from Walmart. You can even duct tape them together for a quick, no sew option.

Wearing all your clothes to bed will help with your top insulation, but do very little to insulate underneath you.

First off I am a very warm sleeper so your mileage may vary. Here is what I have done for my WBBB DL while I am waiting for my piggybank to fill up for an underquilt. This contraption has taken me down to the mid-20's. It may have even taken me down to the teens.

I spread one of those all weather space blankets out in the bottom of the hammock. Being a dual layer hammock helps. I cut a combo foam pad CCF in half and lay it perpendicular for my shoulders. I then use a CCF pad for the rest of my body. I put a reflective truck windshield pad over the whole thing. I use a sleeping bag as a top quilt. Sometimes I add an REI inflatable sit pad for my feet. But, I think a wadded up jacket/towel/large furry ferret would do. I happen to have a sit pad and no ferrets on hand. On really cold nights I have another all weather space blanket that I place over the top of the hammock like a BBO. I fold the corners under the hammock and run some S-biners through the corner grommet holes of the blanket to hold it on the hammock. The top space blanket does not quite cover the whole hammock so it vents air at the head and the foot. Not a lot, but it seems to keep condensation under control for me. I top the whole thing off by wearing a pair of fuzzy fleece "dad pants", tee-shirt, a fleece pullover and a wool cap to sleep in.

    Blargh! pads bah! humbug!

    Pads!
I don't like them, never have. I recommend the sleeping bag idea. If size & weight constraints are not a concern, then most any cheapo rectangle SB will do. If you have a thread injector a few quick mods to the bag would be all that is required. That and bias tape, probably some shockcord. It may not look to pretty but it will be warm and ,if you're like me, will provide a better nights sleep.

Of course then there is always the possibility of a local HF member being so kind as to loan you a real UQ. I wish I was close enough myself, I'd be happy to do so if I could.

I'm close by but dont have one. Reason for all the views but little in response is probably cause you guys already hit every idea up. Other than lighting a couple fires and sleeping between them but that would put you back on the ground

When I started I got by with a Thermarest pad in a SPE and added my DIY Reflectix sit pad under my back side. This past January I added a full reflectix pad to my rig when the temps dropped un-expectingly. That stuff works very well by it's self too! You can also use one of those silver windshield sun shades (Truck size). They have them at Auto Zone, but now have found them for half the price at Big Lots! They are not noisy like the emerg. blankets and fold up nice.
