I have a 2nd gen as well. Awesome and lightweight for the trail. Used mine on a canoe trip to algonquin last summer... When fully charged, I used it for 1.5-2hrs every night when setting up camp/chillin' fire-side with friends for 4 nights. Put it on the dimmest display light setting and turn off the screen while music plays and it greatly extends it's life;-) I also splurged and got a $10 dollar pocket-sized speaker that took 2AA batts to boost the sound (my one "special item"). But yes, if it's 2nd or higher, there is an internal speaker;-)
