Looks like a puzzle to me, I might have to make one of those to see if I can solve it.

I always say, a rope is just a knot waiting to happen.

Are you going to undo it? Just cut off the back splice and pull the bury out.

Heck no I'm not undoing it!! It works just like those little beads - the loop won't pull back into the bury.

Even if someone tells me I can't use it like this (if the knot robs too much strength?), I'll hang it somewhere as a reminder

It took me a minute to see it…! I thought it was just a loop...

yeah a knot degrades amsteel ... so the knot might be the weak link
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

The photo is proof of nothing. To be sure of that I just made a loop with the same topological structure.

If there were somehow an overhand knot in the adjustable loop, it would cause perhaps a 50% degradation in strength, but just in that leg ,and both legs share the load. So move the overhand knot out of the way, close to the sleeve, where it will serve to keep you from pulling it through.

With the degradation of strength due to the knot, odds are still that under breaking load the whoopie sling breaks at the exit on the other side of the sleeve, where there is a stress riser and the load is shifted entirely to one line.
