Hi,
I'm absolutely new to hammock camping. I had a cord hammock rolled up in my basement for years, but hardly used it. So how did an ignorant person like me end up here ! Well, I actually don't remember myself, I think all started with a hole in my selfinflating mattress? Following the mysterious ways of internet and search engines, I think I went from mattress to bivy and from there to hammocks.
Reading all sorts of stories and watching many vids on Utube, I got somewhat crazy about the subject, up to a point to order a DD. I checked other, mainly US produced, brands but their prices + shipping discouraged me from 'just trying'. If hammocking becomes a chronic disease, I will surely invest more. At the moment DD seams to be a good start at a still acceptable price.
I do not hike a lot, my hobbies are archery, medieval events and touring on my motorcycle. I have done quite some camping, the last few years switching to 'wild'. I have wildcamped in France, England, Scotland, Italy, Austria, Slovenia and, of course, Switzerland. I didn't really care for stealth but try to stay discreate. Build up at sunset, leaving at sunrise a clean place behind.
Traveling motorized, weight is not so much an issue but size can be. Fast setup time primes, too. Coming summer I will go for a ride to Ireland/Scotland, abt 4000 miles in 10 days. Until then I will try hammocking, hoping it to be conclusive.
In return for advise for hammocking, I will be happy to share my experience of (wild)camping in Europe.
Happy hanging !
