Got my first hammock! A Blackbird 1.7 dl

OK, thanks! I was thinking about an adjustable ridge line, but when I saw the build quality of this hammock, I began to doubt whether I'd gain anything by tinkering with Brandon's design.

Ridge line length is personal preference, but there are several threads about people who adjusted theirs to get that perfect custom length, and then realized that after tinkering for a long time, they ended up right back where Brandon originally set it. I just left mine alone.

I'm in the market to buy another hammock ... My son wants to start to going out in the woods with me and I can't think of a better hammock to buy then the Blackbird ... Plus I'll need anther tarp too!!!... (Still researching that one)

Of course they will just be more pieces of gear to have ....

Sometimes it seems like the more you have, the more you need (or *think* you need). Speaking for myself, though.

Last week my wife an I were seriously talking about getting rid of a lot of our stuff. We have stuff everywhere. Dishes boxed up, pots and pans we never use, clothes galore that don't fit, knives, guns, flashlights, and tools that never see the light of day.....

In the end we decided to hang onto it a few more years and give it to our five kids, get them started with life.

I'm going out to hang this new hammock now.

First hang, first impression:

I really dig excellent things. Great design, great literature, a particularly clever movie, a BMW 3-series, exquisite cuisine... all the things that showcase ingenuity and creativity, and which evidence a love of the same in their maker.

The BB hammock is like that. Its design results in a product that is perfectly suited to its intended use, and you can tell by examining its features and function that the guy who made it gets deep satisfaction in making it well. This is a thing that is designed and crafted as much for my use as for his pleasure.

When I lie in it, the zipper works, the shelf is where it should be, the foot box -- whose very conception was ingenious -- provides the room and sense of space that it was designed to. I'm comfortable, cozy but not constrained... the material is exactly what it should be -- light, strong, smooth for easy maneuvering and stuffing, and has no chemical plasticky odor. I know he didn't make the fabric itself, but he *chose* it for his product.

I didn't find a flaw in the build anywhere, nor in the materials. They were top-drawer every one, not a second-quality item to be found.

It's pretty rare to find anything designed and built so well. I researched a lot of hammocks before settling on this one. I'm not saying I'll never buy a different hammock, but the one I order for my wife tomorrow will be another BB.
