what to call it - for you hammock designers

Just wondering.. how would some kind of inflatable work, that wont move around, set underneath you, inside a speer type hammock, to make you feel you are lying flatter? Im thinking it would be designed to fill the inside natural curve of the hammock.

I slept a few times with my big agnus pad, It raises your center of gravity too. Not bad, but noticable. Others love it.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

There are quite a few members here that sleep in their Speer-style hammocks with inflatable pads (slowhike is one, and I'm sure he'll chime in).

One helpful trick is to only partially inflate the pad. That allows it to conform to the shape of the hammock more effectively.

Yes, but what crawldaddy is suggesting here, I think, is not just a pad, but a pad that overcomes the curvature of the hammock.

The trick is his words "to fill the inside natural curve of the hammock." If you have the skills to build an inflatable pad this way, I'd try it.

I think I hear what your saying Crawdaddy... A pad that's thicker in the middle & rounded on the bottom, like the bottom of the hammock.
If so, I don't think you would need much extra in the middle.
The air mats I use (BA insulated air core & Exped DAM) seam fairly flat as they are.
When you lay on them, they spread out, pushing the sides of the hammock out some.

I'd be curious to try what you're talking about but in my thoughts, it might keep you raised high enough to be unstable.
    Maybe not though???

Something like this Hammock Mattress patent or this one?

I've never seen one or even know of one other than the patent write ups. I, like Slowhike, would worry about the stability of the hammock with something that raised you that high above the hammock bed.

That is what I got from his suggestion - good find, Dave.

Youngblood, thats exactly what I had in mind. I wonder if anyone is making them now. Raising the center of gravity is something I hadnt considered. I wonder if Big Agnus or some other manufacturer makes a 3/4 inflatable that would be worth experimenting with.
BTW.. I just spent 3 days on top of Cold Mountain, NC. Awesome weather and views. Only visitor I had was a lost hound dog. I will try to post some pics later.
