Question Stretch of silnylon? Cuban fiber alternative to the Superfly?

In my ignorance, I had just assumed that Cuban Fiber was a lighter material. But reading around, it seems much less prone to stretching than silnylon does when wet and with temperature changes.

More than half the year I'll be in a wet climate, and I have noticed my silnylon tarps sagging in the morning (though I don't have the superfly yet, but it is on order).

I'm 99% backpacking with my hammock gear, so the weight savings would be nice, and depending on the cost difference I'd be open to it.

But, what are some alternatives to the Superfly in cuban fiber? I like the coverage, the pullouts, and the doors since this will be my wet and cold weather tarp.

Does cuban stretch at all? Other positives to it? Negatives?

No stretch at all but maybe a (little) less durable. Not a big issue if you treat it nicely, though. The weight can make a big dig difference when backpacking, which is one of its biggest attractors.

The best superfly alternate is the HammockGear 4 season cuben fiber tarp. It has doors and pullouts. It's a little less wide overall but provides similar coverage and is 12 oz lighter (19 vs 7)!

Thanks for the prompt reply. It is impressive weight savings, but twice the price!

And that is its one main drawback, IMO.

I've had an HG Cuben Fiber 4S Tarp for about a year. I must say that any concerns I had about durability have been alleviated. It's gone through a hailstorm with nickel- and dime-size banging on it, hail with flying colors. I can't think of any negatives at all. There was a brief period when I first got it that I couldn't get a taut pitch, but it may have been user error.

Personally, I would get the HG Winter Palace. The Superfly is 10' x 11', and the Winter Palace is 10' 10" along the ridgeline and 10' 7" wide. The HG 4S, however, has the same ridgeline length but is only 8.5 ft. wide.

I'm upgrading from the 4S (6.5 oz) to the Winter Palace (8.5 oz) 'cause I think it's worth 2 more ounces to get the additional coverage width-wise. At $395, it's expensive, but I'd rather have one ultralight "true" 4S tarp than multiple "not exactly Cuben" tarps. I never felt that the HG 4S was a true 4S tarp, more like a "minimalist" 4S tarp.
