I am a Scout Master for our Troop. We made hammocks and many of the boys love sleeping in theirs. When we go backpacking the two questions are always is there water and can we hang our hammocks. Just try not to have to much fun in scouting.

    Neo,
I think you will definitely qualify as a member of the 'Old Goats' patrol.

That's a good thing you guys are doing helping out with Scouting. I went through it in the 90's and really enjoyed it. A lot of troops definitly need help with backpacking from people that know what they are doing.

My troop did not do much hiking. We did car camping. Maybe that is why I enjoy the hiking part of hiking more than the camp end of things.

I plan to help out a troop when I get settled after my hike.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

I'm an Assistant Scoutmaster currently. I was the Scoutmaster from 1999 to 2005. I got into hammocking after seeing Hennessy's at the 2005 National Jamboree. It's slow going but I've just about converted 3 adults in my troop and 1 scout seems to be getting interested. One other scout used a hammock one weekend last year.

I hung 2 homemade hammocks in base camp last weekend. Our Scoutmaster wasn't convinced but when he got in he was asleep within 5 minutes for a short nap. He ended up sleeping in the hammock that night and the next night until rain threatened...I didn't hang a tarp over it. The other night at our District banquet his wife said that's all he's been talking about.
