    Suspension options overload

    Hi All,
for the last couple of years I've been using my blackbird with webbing and dutch clips. I'm now looking to make a new DIY hammock and am completely overwhelmed with the bits and pieces now available. Dutch hooks, biner, whoopie hooks, soft shackles.
I'd like a suspension setup for the hammock that is simple, durable and lighter than my current strap setup.
I've nearly wrapped my head around the whole whoopie hook concept. But is 1000lb test limit enough for safe long term use?
    Any suggestions appreciated.

I've actually never bent a whoopie hook. At 1200 the Amsteel breaks. I list 1000 pounds for safety factor. I can't fit line in it big enough to put enough load on it.

Simpler and lighter than webbing? Whoopie slings directly attached to your hammock with webbing for the trees and a Marlin Spike Hitch using a trail stick to connect the amsteel to the webbing. That's about as simple a set up you can get that is lighter than your webbing suspension. Both the amsteel and webbing will be durable for a while but like anything, they should be checked often to ensure they are still in good working order.

The bits and pieces are great and I have just about all of Dutch's products but there is something to be said about having no hardware in your set up.

I completely agree with this. Whoopie larksheaded to hammock, tree straps and MSH. That's about as simple as it gets and works as well or better then other systems. I've got many pieces of hardware and "software".....they look great in a gear box so that's where they stay, out of the way where they won't weight me down or slow down setup.
