    Hello from N.E. Alabama

Just wanted to introduce myself to you all. My name is Rick and I am from Fort Payne Al. I retired from the fire department over a year ago with over 25 years of service. I am a registered nurse and have been a paramedic even longer than I have been a firefighter.
I have camped a lot over the years but was always a tent camper. As I became older I camped less and less due to back problems. I have always loved the outdoors but hated waking up with the old backache from sleeping on the ground.
I have never thought about hammocking until recently. My brother-in-law has recently started hammocking with his two boys and some friends. He was telling me about some of their adventures and that sort of sparked an interest. Then just a few days ago I found this site and read for awhile. I soon noticed how much there is to learn and how there are lots of hangers here that are more than willing to help out the newcomers. I was impressed with this and the fact that everyone seemed so friendly and they all have the great common interest of hammocking. So I joined up and am eager to learn. Thanks for such a great site.

Hi Bama Man. Welcome from Cincinnati. You're about to embark on a very pleasant journey. You're right, the folks here on HF are among the most helpful in the world. Couple that with a knowledgable base, the learning curve is quick and fun. Try going to a local hang, there's lots of them all over the country. Check the "trips" section. You can see in person all the different options; hammocks, suspensions, tarps...it's all there.

    Enjoy the ride,

    Home Run

Welcome to HF Bama Man! Nothing beats the quite and calm feeling one gets from relaxing in a comfortable hammock as it swings back and forth, gently rocking you to a peaceful state.....zzzz
I'm not asleep... but that doesn't mean I'm awake.

Welcome to HF from another Bama hanger........I am not far from you, down in Gadsden. If you want to check out some rigs and possibly think about DIY'ing your gear let me know and I can get Mandydawn to help with some pointers, she is getting good at this gear making thing.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone !! Bigbamaguy, Yes we are pretty close, I actually live down near Sand Rock area now. We go to Gadsden pretty frequently. Thanks for the offer on the DIY stuff. My brother-in-law made the hammocks they are using, but I haven't had a chance to check them out in person yet. I'm not sure which way I will go yet. Just been doing a lot of reading here so far. There's certainly a lot of decisions to make. lol . Thanks again you guys !!!

Welcome fellow new comer. I am just across the valley from you in Henagar. Possibly deliver your mail. At any rate I am looking at the DIY hammock now but if you decide you would like to buy Coosa Outfiters will match REI's prices if you like the ENO line.

As Mitt would say, "A hearty cheese grits welcome to y'all!" Glad to have another potential hanger in Alabama. I'm in Alabaster, so only a couple of hours away. You sure have some prime camping in your neck of the woods. Enjoy your journey.
