The way I figure, whichever method you use, to move the tarp, you have to go to both ends. So (in my mind) the argument that it's simpler to move 2 prussiks vs. adjust 2 ends is rather null. Whatever, HYOT (hang your own tarp).
I've always used Linelocs, and they're dead simple to use, and I've only ever broken one, even in quite high winds, and that was my own fault.

you can still slide the tarp to center over the hammock. + no knots.
i've never had a prussik slip.

it also allows you to easily rig the tarp lines above your hammock suspension lines, fully utilizing the tarps cat-cut ridgeline, and avoiding interference with hmmk suspension.
Oh, so NOW you come up with another easier way to rig that I'm going to HAVE to try.

I set up exactly like rip. I use a Superfly which has a grosgrain ridgeline on it already so it is strong and acts like a continuous ridgeline. Other tarps that do not have this may benefit from the support of an under the tarp RL. Also, if your tarp has a cat cut to it, an over the tarp RL may be better.

Have you set this tarp up yet Rip? Wondering what length ridgelines and guylines you went with?

    Cheers

I switched to a single ridgeline about a year ago and it's the best thing I've ever done to make my life easier. My tarp is permanently attached to the ridgeline with prusiks so I can't leave it behind and there's no additional hardware or shackles.

I have a Dutch hook in a bowline on one end. That end goes up first by simple going around the tree and hooking to itself. The second end is free but before the end there is a prusik with another Dutch hook in the prusik. That end also goes around the tree and hooks to itself; the difference being that you can slide the hook along the line.

Once the ridgeline is set, the tarp is permanently attached and in snakeskins, simply slide the tarp into position. I'll never go back to two ridgelines.

Looking at Rips 2 line setup, it seems to me it is almost exactly like a CTRL, with a 6 ft section of the middle missing. You also have eliminated one sliding prussik, so slightly smaller, slightly lighter. A good setup, but not enough to make me go out and hack up my CRL. Gram Weenieism begins at home. lol.

Cal, I've sold it on to fund some work with zpacks.
But hung, I use ~10-12' for ridge lines, and about ~6' for guy lines.

Reason for 2 lines is ease in my case, I find it simpler and more adaptable after using
The single line when I was getting started. It seems to cater to those who rig the tarp
Above their hammock suspension lines. Being that it follows the same principle as the hammock
Itself (30* angle), I find it very easy to set desired height, ridge line tension, etc.

I recently watched this video again, which has some interesting tarp rigging ideas...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C24ZfphQzrQ

Thanks, Rip and MORE. I missed this video when it first posted. I really like the idea of removing the tarp guy lines from the tarp to store separately. Why? Just for neatness. This is a cool, fast and easy way to make guy lines removable.

On the subject of this thread, I use a continuous ridge line and prussic knots for many of the reasons stated previously; primarily because I like to be able to center the tarp over the hammock after everything's up. Others argue that a continuous ridge line rubbing under your tarp may cause undue wear on the tarp and eventually cause it to leak and/or rip. To each his own: there really is no right or wrong way!
