Feel free to critique or suggest. I do want to make at least 1 extender.

I have a Whoopie hook inside the adjustable end of the Whoopie. This end is also sewn to the hugger. On the other end of the hugger is a 12 inch continuous loop and then a nacrabiner. Pictures below are worth more than words though.

I liked the setup. Quick, easy, nothing to lose! Under 4 oz for both sides!

My concern... Being on the east coast, trees are easy to find. When I go to Glacier this summer, will this system have the adjustability to let me hang? And will it work on the monster trees in CA? Time will tell, I like it for now.

I do not understand your setup at all. The whoopie hook serves no purpose other than a stopper for the adjustable loop? It's just dangling there.

It appears you plan to use no tree huggers on one end? That certainly doesn't sound advisable from the tree's perspective. Any way you could provide a drawing to provide more detail?

Glacier,,depending on where you hike,,and decide to camp,,there will either be trees or none at all,,if above the tree line. If your in the car camp sites of Glacier you will have no trouble picking out a site to hang at. Most places you can backpack/hike at Glacier has trees where you camp but there are quite a few above tree line if you chose those areas. Check your maps and topos of where you will be to note that fact...if CA..need some big extensions, most of the CA hangers can chime in as to size,,but depending again,,where your hanging in CA? And looking at your suspension, in CA where they definitely protect their trees,,you better think 20' tree straps if in the Redwoods or Sequoia Areas in my opinion.

Sorry, not much of a way for me to draw it.

The second photo is just another way ( more traditional) that I can use the setup on a smaller tree.

The third photo shows the setup on a really large tree. The hugger is 36 inches and covers the back half of the tree. I had heard that was sufficiently safe for the tree. Maybe I'm wrong. If I was sleeping there I would throw a few sticks around the lines for safety.

Basically, in most scenarios, my setup is like photo one. Hook to continuous loop to hugger. Other end of hugger is attached to adjustable end of Whoopie like the hook.

Maybe I'm way off base here... Just trying something different for me.

I'm having a hard time following as well. I'd say double up the length of your tree straps for starters.

I think the setup can work. For bigger trees, it probably will not without adding more strap. But I'm thinking for trees 2 ft in diameter or less, this could work.

What he is showing is way to reduce the amount of webbing as well as have a contingency for really large trees.

All that is really necessary to protect the trees is webbing on the far side where the webbing will be transferring the pressure of the weighted hammock on the tree. On the near side there is no pressure being exerted by the webbing. Because of this you can reduce the length of webbing needed for set up. It's really for the weight and bulk conscious but also for those who like to fiddle.

I believe the fixed eye end of the whoopie is larks headed to the hammock. The adjustable end has been run through the loop of the strap and the hook then buried. On the other end of a short strap he has an extender or nacro made of amsteel for larger trees. If the tree is too large for the strap, first pic, you use the nacro hooked into the hook which will run up and down the adjustable loop. Second pic, if the tree is smaller, you don't need the whoopie hook, just fix the nacro around the strap as shown. Third pic, a really large tree, you can't see the strap because its on the back side of the tree. It looks as though DT is using an extender in this configuration, the hook is attached to the extender on the left. The adjustable whoopie from the hook to the right side is wrapping around the tree to the right where its looped through the strap loop.
