Cinco de Mayo would be my vote (the Lake Santeetlah hang is the weekend before the 27-29th and back-to-back weekends might be too much), but it's still tentative that we'll be attending, so take that into account.

one other thing to keep in mind is that Neo will likely have his Spring Hang sometime in May as well. I haven't seen any dates yet.

    Update...

Ok, I talked to David about May 4-6 today and he said the weekend specifically didnt have to be set in stone but I had to give him something.

    A few things:

First he is fine with us using the treeline closest to the primitive campsite(not the lake) and will call me tomorrow morning to confirm (he has to meet with the rangers in the morning to discuss and see if there are any objections. He said if anything it would be wildlife related and not us). I explained that we are respectable hikers/campers and do this very often making sure we dont damage trees and keep the natural areas clean.

    He also extended 2 courtesies-

First, he offered to do a guided canoe/kayak trip saturday morning through the marshy areas and show us some of the wildlife and bird rookeries(I have been on the trip several times, its great). For anyone with their own canoe/kayak there is no charge. He said they have 8 canoes if anyone would like to reserve one, the cost per canoe is $20. I would just need a rough number count before that weekend.

Second, he is checking in the morning but says it shouldnt be a problem... He will have a wildlife specialist do a live bird of prey presentation at the visitors center on saturday evening if I have enough commit to it. He will have several hawks and owls and maybe even an eagle depending on the date. The show is pretty cool, I have been to it several times.

So to get this going I would need a count of who would like to do each and how many per party. If you would like to rent a canoe, I need to know before hand(seats 2).

I will do what I can on my end to help give some options, just need the feedback. I have been going to Reelfoot for almost 20 years doing mostly photography but it is a great fishing destination too.

Just an FYI there are a few trails BUT they are short, only about a mile on the longest one, it is more of a wildlife viewing trail vs a hiking trail so take it for what its worth, since it is a base camp/car camp scenario I would suggest binoculars, cameras, video cameras etc.

Let me know what I can do to help!

I'll plan on being there with my two boys. We don't have a kayak so we'll just hang out at the campground and let me kids fish off the bank. The bird presentation sounds cool. My wife may come but you can count on us 3 for sure.

Thanks for the update and for the help, Rayn! Big time good of you to handle this.

tncamper and I will be bringing a few extra boats, but we may also bring some of our family members so we can't give an exact count on that right now.

We'll also have a pot luck dinner Saturday evening for the hangers.

Rayn - You are the man. I'll refrain from saying yeah or neigh to any of the options as I'm good with whatever a group is up to. I do want to fish some but that time is def. flexible around any of those things. I will be bringing my canoe and kayaks. I'll have extras if anyone wants to borrow one for whatever.(some are sit on tops and you will get wet) The prey presentation sounds great for the kids.(as well as adults) Thanks for checking on all of that.
    It'll be alright Friday!
