    MacCat Deluxe or Standard

Thinking about buying a MacCat tarp for some extra protection from wind and rain. Also, like the idea of a larger tarp then the stock HH tarp, especially if I'm stuck in camp in bad weather. Lastly, I have heard that the MacCat will not flap as much in the wind. BUT I'm not sure whether to get the Deluxe or the Standard. Any advice on which size to get?

Less than 2 oz difference, I would go with the Deluxe for the extra side coverage.

Get the Deluxe. I am REALLY glad I had it on my 270 mile section hike this May from Springer to Hot Springs. The weather was all over the map. 40-50 mph winds, thunderstorms with pea hail and 2 inch per hour rains. I stayed dry.

Do you have one of the longer HHs, like the Explorer? If so, for sure get the deluxe, IMO. Even the deluxe is not quite as long as the HH Explorer tarp on the RL, though it provides more coverage on the sides. It is a superb tarp in the wind and as far as other quality issues.

    Talking Hey

I bought MacCat's "micro" and I think you'd be foooooolish to buy anything bigger for 3 season hang'in.

Winter ? I recommend an 8x10 and close it at the ends. That's my kit ...

    Thar ya' go

Foolish? Nothing could be further from the truth. A person should buy the gear that suits them and works in their style, regardless of what others say.

I've hammock camped through lots of weather where I would have found a 'micro' to be insufficient. I would recommend either the Deluxe, or the Ultra, depending on the length of your hammock.
