Thanks. It's mostly borrowed ideas from the chrysalis, Grizz, BER and Brandon with a little Ed mixed in.

I have to say the head end storage is great and the the pockets are awesome! So far I am loving it!

I am in it tonight and it's supposed to get down to about 35. I am curious to see if my Burrow 40 TQ can go that low and be comfortable.

As the self-appointed historian of bridge hammockry I'll bring to the public's attention that key distinctives of Ed's hammock popped first with contributions by two he doesn't know to list 'cause those contributions are buried way back in the avalanche of DIY bridge hammock postings in the first couple of years.

WalkingBear gets my nod for introducing the idea of recessing the spreader bars, so as to get the spread of the bar closer to the body parts that need it. Turkeyboy gets my nod for the idea of extending the body out along the suspension triangle, making some storage space and (he argued) making it easier to put on endcaps.

That said, Ed has taken good ideas from his own noggin and those of others and cranked them up to 11 in application.

One of the points he made resonants in particular with my experience. My last few bridge hammocks have had recessed spreader bars (typically 6' apart) which has allowed the distance between tops of the suspension triangles to be just under 10'. This means (1) I'm less limited in site selection, and (2) it fits completely under all my tarps.

    Thanks Grizz.

I ended up getting cold last night. I tried my Prolite plus pad in the hammock and although the Burrow 40 was at the very end of its range, it was the lack of coverage by the pad that got me. Anywhere I got off the the pad was quickly cold. The el cheapo, but light foam pad will probably work the best.

I did try my primaloft UQ and it worked pretty well, but it would work better if it was designed specifically to fit.

Okay, I think I have it. The pattern you posted is for this 2nd hammock, not the one with the flat ends.

Does this pattern look about right ??
    I am 6-3 - 235.
Will make the body out of 2.2 oz

Any reason the pad sleeve is on the inside ??

That looks about right to me. Of course the length of the center section is only a guess.

The sleeve is on the inside because the ends would fall away from your feet if it was on the outside.

Not yet. Got sidetracked into SUL again.
That and my long normal hammock was working so well over the holidays I lost interest.

I have the Nylon and the webbing for the sides.
I am stuck on the spreader bar connection.
Was originally going to use Hiking poles and will still probably.
Mine were at my folks house in Ga and I had forgotten they have the ergo grip, IE black diamond so not sure if I want to use those.

Probably will tackle it next week. Looks like a pretty simple build.

At 235 lbs, I would suggest making a quick/easy test hammock and trying the hiking poles first before making a full version of the hammock. I run between 170 and 180 lbs and my weight puts a lot of stress on the poles.

My plan was to use a real spreader bar at the head inside the net and the use both hiking poles at the feet. That way I could shed some weight and bulk and not worry about the stress on the hiking poles.

I finished my 4 spreader bar hammock, and then on to the next design: spreader bars that are sewn into the fabric lengthwise, with end spreaders forcing a U shape in cross section. I don't care about weight, only strength.

I have been eying an unused trampoline in my backyard. It has 8 hard points where the 4 u shaped legs plug in. I am thinking about an 8 point harness that allows a single support rope of dyneema.

Also along these lines, trampoline fabric is strong, stretchy and has great ventilation. Comes in many colors and sew easily. Outlasts any nylon fabric with zero care.
