Has anyone used this permethrin spray?

I've been looking for a lower cost alternative to Sawyers and had planned to get some Permethrin 10 and dilute it. However, I ran upon the following:

    Bonide BedBug Killer
    http://www.bonide.com/products/produ...ategory_id=573

    Here is the MSDS:
    http://www.bonide.com/lbonide/msds/msds573.pdf

It appears to mimic Sawyers in content, the MSDS doesn't mention a petroleum distillate, it comes in 12 oz., quart, and gallon sizes, and it sells at 1/5 the price of Sawyers.

I'm wondering if anyone out there has used this? Or am I missing something?

I haven't, but it looks interesting. I wonder if one of the more knowledgeable folks could chime in. I know there was a recent permethrin thread with a chemical engineer that made some posts. If this helps, I checked out the MSDS for Sawyer's clothing spray. It seems like it is very similar to the one you posted. Anyone? (on Amazon.com a gallon of this stuff with a sprayer attached is $13.86 http://www.amazon.com/Bonide-Bed-Bug...2278575&sr=8-1)

Colemans has a permerhrin spray 10 or 12oz for like $7. Seems simple and cheap enough for me.

According to the label and MSDS there are no petroleum distillates. "Water Based" or "Aqueous/emulsion Diluent 99.50%" Sounds like a viable alternative IMO but I am not an expert by any means!

From your link..."Also kills lice, fleas, ticks, clothes, moths, and carpet beetles and pantry pest."

I don't think I want my clothes killed.

It's made for beds. Hammock=better bed. Sounds promising.

    And snake repellent too

Not the permethrin, another product from the same mfg.

    Who knew?

    SNAKE STOPPER RTS
We have reformulated our leading and often emulated snake repellent into a liquid ready-to-spray application. This convenient new method of application makes covering large areas easier and will expand sales in the category. Not for sale in IN, KY, NM.

Nope. Permethrin along with other ...'thrins are insecticides, potent neurotixins to insects.

DEET, lemon eucalyptus, picaridin, and some others are repellents.

Some claim that that permethrin seems to have a repellent effect also. One would suppose that there might be evolutionary selection for insects which detected that which would kill them on contact.

The notion here is that residual levels of permethrin in netting, the hammock body and clothing after soaking and even after laundering kills critters that light on you and seek your tasty bits.

Hey, its gonna be helluva Spring for ticks, isn't it?

Not an alternative, but a way to treat your clothes so that you need less DEET to begin with. You soak the clothes, let them dry, and they become toxic to the flying, biting insects that so pester us.
