    UQ options for cold sleepers

    Hi All,
my wife is looking for a new underquilt. She's a very cold sleeper. Currently using a Speer Snugfit which keeps her -just- warm enough in winter. We're looking for something 3/4 length to cut down on pack size (the snugfit is great but takes up most of her pack).
She's only 5 foot tall, so a 3/4 length should be fine. We've been checking out te wa, flamethrower and hammockgear but haven't made a decision. Any input would be appreciated!

You could also add LeighLo, Wilderness Logics to that list and Underground Quilts too. In reality, it would be hard to make a wrong choice with any of the vendors on this site.

Sorry that doesn't help you. I've personally used quilts from LeighLo and Hammock Gear and they were great. Also what is the temperature rating on the SnugFit?. If that is barely adequate for your winters there, perhaps going for a quilt with more loft and down it in would be the solution. Most vendors make a 0F or -18C quilts.

    Cheers

    Brian

Most of the dedicated cottage industrialists will make you a monster if you want one. I have a good buddy that made a 5.5" thick purple "people eater" 3/4 for his wife, as she has the same problem.

Us Canadians (at least in Ontario) are lucky enough to have Feather Industries in Toronto, who sell a very reasonable 950+ White hutterite goose down.

Contact a gear makes and tell them what you want. I guarantee that they will make you happy.

Thanks to you both. More food for thought.

I can recommend Paul's work and customer service. His quilts kept me warm down to -12 F on a recent trip.

Hmmm, no one mentioned the Yeti from Brandon yet. For a shorter girl that would be a great UQ. Only reason I sold mine was I needed something bigger. It's a great UQ. Though, I'm a huge Hammock Gear fan, Adam and Jenny are simply awesome...as is their work.

I have a yeti, but I'd prefer a quilt for her that is a little bit longer and preferably one that doesn't choke up the hammock quite as much

Get her a HammockGear winter Phoenix 0* and then have Adam overstuff it with a few ounces! I have a few Incubator 0*s which have been great.

They are plenty long enough. If you got the Phoenix, it would almost cover her all the way. Better yet, have him build a custom one at about 60" long. I'd guess that it'd go down to -10*F with the overstuff.
