You can learn lots at a group hang if you come by to see everyone's setup. The Ontario hangers are a great group.... I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the next hang.

Personally I love DIY. You can make a gathered end hammock pretty quick if you have access to a sewing machine. I made my second one in camo material the other weekend in about 45 minutes. Material cost me about $20. You can learn more in

I've never tried one, but I've noticed that Amazon.ca has the Grand Trunk hammocks both the inexpensive ultralight for $18 and the Skeeterbeeter PRO for $70. MEC has some good options as well from Hennesy and Portec.
Buying all kinds of new gear can add up, so consider your budget. Things like insulation and tarps are necessary and can add to the total cost.
If you plan to hang indoors often you might want a hammock without bug mesh permanently attached.
