Trying to make a locked brummel with Zing it

    Hey y'all!

I'm having trouble making the locked brummel with the 1.75mm Dyneema. My problem is getting a splicing tool small enough to pull the bury in the final step.

The last thing I tried was a used guitar E-string, but even then the problem is that the double-up end was too fat to pull through.

Should I be using a fid instead?

Has anyone had success with a splicing wire? If so, what should I be doing to make that fat end pull through into the bury?

    Thanks in advance!

Find a piece of Cat5 network wiring (or perhaps telephone wiring). Cut the sleeve off and pull out one of the individual strands and double it over. I've found that's small enough to splice Zing-It with.

In the UK I've used fuse wire (13amp), you could try that, if of course your home electrics use fuse wire, only antique systems use it over here, but we can still get the wire. Other than that network cable works, as angrysparrow mentions.

I splice with a piece of .025" stainless wire, .020 would probably be better but .025 works well enough.
    Good luck,

To cure the doubled up end I split the strands about and inch or whatever need comoared to.the bury length and then cut off half of them to create a taper also. Less strands is less bulk. I use doubled over piece of wire and pinch the frayed edge in the wire and its less bulk and pulls rught through plus the taper is supposed to create less of a drastic change in the cord width which is said to cause weak points in the system.

Cat 5 wire is good. Exaggerate the taper - make it longer than you think necessary (at least 2") and pull out 8 strands in 4 pairs so when you double the end through the loop in the wire the overall thickness is 12 strands or less. If you spaced the pairs you pulled out at 2" then 1.5" then 1" then .5", you'll fold back .75" of the end to go through the loop.

Believe it or not, I think I remember Opie posting that he uses no taper at all when work with the smaller stuff...

I don't use a taper just really thin wire when splicing 1.75mm.
