    rope/cord ?

so I finally got around to start making my first gathered end hammock... figured out the sewing machine and all that, all fine and dandy.. but now im wondering about suspension. i've been reading, and seems most people are using amsteel blue...
seems like they don't sell this rope/cord in norway, or at least not where i live..

so what am i looking for then? rope for boats? rope for climbing? i checked out a sports store, but their climbing cords seemed very elastic?

Hollow core single braid rope for boats/sailing. It is often sold in marine supply shops. And will be extremely strong for it's size. Ask the clerk in the shop if they know what Amsteel is, if not then they should still be able to help you find what you are looking for.

Yessir...amsteel is a nautical rope. Climbing rope does have stretch!
    You can order it.
    Also....maybe check out Grizz's suspension tutorial videos......http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=8939

Amsteel floats. Its magical stuff really. You can splice it, hang from it, loop it, bury it, I'm sure if you tried hard enough and you "Believe" it could get you back home from OZ.

amsteel is "dyneea" threads woven into a single braid. it's used in, competition grade running rigging(sail supplies),trawl and bridge lines. ( commercal fishing& tow) if you can't find this by name, look at the construction and material that closes resembles amsteel. and of course the load rating! my guess is that any match, around 3-4 mm will do

Rightly said. It doesn't have to be Amsteel. I have used spyderline, and some other stuff (been a while). Any cord rated over 1000lb tensile will work. I usually get mine on line from Annapolis sailing supplies, Redimaine, or DIYgearsupply.

nice site, but looks like they don't ship to europe...

anyways, went down to the boat and fishing stuff store and got some rope... not exactly what i was looking for, they didn't have anything smaller than 6 mm... also, they only had one hollow rope and that was too big...
but the one i got wasn't too heavy, no stretch and could take 730 kg, so it should do for a while...

think i might ebay for le amsteel bleu shortly tho...

    thanks anyways guys
