Is my grand trunk ready for whoopies?

I'm sure this has been covered, but I would feel better if I confirmed it.

I have a new Grand Trunk double. Today my whoopies arrived from Arrowhead (after less than a week ). I just completed replacing the huge stock cable in the channels with the much thinner whoopies. I was getting ready to go hang it and wondered if the much smaller diameter of my new whoopies might increase the force too much on the material of the hammock. It seems like it shouldn't, but I'd hate to damage my new hammock. Do I need to use a larger diameter rope and connect the whoopies to that?

You'll be fine with the whoopies in the channel, even if they're dynaglide.

Whoo hoo! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go hang.

Wanna play like the cool boys do?
Find pics of how Warbonnet does it.
Without pics or a 10 minute video, it is still easy:
Run a short light cord through the channel and fold the channel back on itself, like making cuffs on over-long pants.
Pull the cord tight. You've got a bun of fabric, or call it a head sitting on top of a neck.
Now, make a larks-head of the whoopie over the neck by passing the sling through the fixed loop and drawing it tight.
Or, make that cuff directly with the whoopie run through the channel, and tighten only after the strangle-hold is on the cuff, not on the edges of the channel.

Why would you do that Demo? Is it just to ease tension on the stitching of the channel end?

All I did was untie the knot tied on the loop that came in the channel. Then I wrapped the end of the whoopie through the loop and pulled it through and tied a larkshead. I hung for just a few minutes, but it was with my 2 1/2 year old climbing in and out of the hammock with me. So far so good. Think I'll try a night in it (first knight with this set up) and see if I can stay comfortable and warm. Haven't put my SRL on it yet, putting the tarp on for the first time and finding suitable trees in my back yard took up my free time, so I'll hang without it for a night.

    Warbonnets are finished that way:

Some believe this knob-end either lays differently; and many are confident the reduced stress is a more conservative and safer approach for long term wear.

My understanding of Dyneema cord is that it is so slippery, there's no risk to the cord from abrasion or to the fabric from abrasion of the cord running through the channel. My own first experience of cord-in-channel was swapping out 3/8" polypropylene from a Clark, and I was similarly concerned, initially padding the 7/64" line. Even now I'm cautiously costing 1/2 oz using a sleeved cord in the form of soft shackles in the channels of one hammock, and 3 strands of "7/64" -- a doubled back loop -- in the channel of another. Like the OP, I trust the mfg has tested the triple stitching, but worry without basis about the thin cord loaded on the fabric on the channel.

Look in archives here and you'll find lots of advocacy of the approach I described in my previous post.
