    I also used my top loader, and no soap. If it fits in, and actually moves around once the cycle starts, I would go for it. Weight is not an issue. If it is so crammed in that it doesn't move, forego the continued wash and consider it just one more crumpling event. It will take a lot of hand crumpling to accomplish what the washer can do, and the difference in the softness and sound is huge.

    Hmmm... How about putting it in the bathtub and stomping it around with your feet; put on some music. Do you have kids?

    I washed a piece bigger than that in my regular top loader and it worked fine.
