    1.1oz ripstop hammock question

    Hi All,
I've just made a new ten footer winter hammock and was slightly disappointed that before whoopies it comes out at 340g. I see quite a few people using a single layer of 1.1oz ripstop. I've done some searching on the forum but didn't find the info I needed.
Is there a difference in quality between various 1.1oz ripstop suppliers, ie. some that would be fine for a hammock and others that wouldn't be safe?
    I'm 187lb, would a 1st quality ripstop be ok?

    thanks in advance!

It's not that you will rip through the bottom.
Hammocks are like beds. Some people like soft ones and some like hard ones. The 1.1 is going to stretch pretty good with you in it, but if you like soft beds, that's OK. Maybe you can try someone's hammock before you commit.

I am barely shy of 200# and I'm very comfortable in a single layer 1.5 oz ripstop.

Do the math first IMO. I haven't so I don't know what the answer is but how much difference is there between what you have and your new plans? Is it enough to warrant the purchase, effort and outfitting of a new hammock? I'm not going to answer that question because it is a very subjective decision and some people are OCD gram weenies seeking the Nirvana of light weight gear. And that's fine.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

    I'm 180# and prefer my 1.5 ripstop from diygearsupply.com It's luscious.

But many will tell you you can hang comfortably in 1.1 It just stretches, which some people mind and some don't.

I know one hanger likes his 1.1 and he comes in around 210#... at last count... if I'm up to date...

I'm 210 lbs and use a single layer 1.1 oz hammock. I've used 1.1 oz on all my hammocks and only buy "seconds" because I'm just too dern cheap to pay more than I have to for anything. I have yet to find flaws in any of the "seconds" material that I've bought. All of my hammocks have been very comfortable! I love the way the lighter fabric stretches beneath me.
