    Gear storage Idea: Support line

I came across this idea by accident but it worked out really well and I can't believe I didn't think of it before and I wanted to share it. I had to hang my hammock using a 60-ish foot length of webbing. I didn't want to cut it to only use it a couple nights. So I rigged it around one tree, strung it to the other tree, and back to the hammock for the ring buckles. What I ended up with was a line right next to and a little higher than my hammock running inbetween the 2 trees.

I was able to hang my pack, stuff sacks, shoes, and water bladder off of this. It made for great storage and was all underneath my tarp. Good thing with all the rain that came through. I usually hang my pack on the hammock webbing at the hammock, but this causes more weight at the foot end and can change the way it lays. It also isn't covered by the tarp here. I usually hang the stuff sacks from the ridge line but that takes up room in the hammock or in the bug bivy.

Now I am going to get a length of spectra cord and string that between the trees to work as a gear clothes line.

Yes except for the hiking stick. The trees I tied on where around 8-10 inches thick. I tied the webbing so it was coming off on one side of the tree instead of the middle for the gear line. That made it offset a few inches. I should have taken a pic or 2. I'll have to do that next time.

Maybe you could hang one of 2Questions gear organizers from the line? Or would that be overkill? How heavy is it carrying that much webbing?

That webbing was heavy. Just what I had in my car. It does make a good rope swing into a swimming hole! I'm going to order some of the webbing suggested on another thread. I'm thinking spectra tied around the tree or the biners on the webbing would work.

I like the gear organizer idea. It might be overkill with everything I have already in 2 different stuff sacks or my pack. I also make a pocket on my ridgeline for my glasses and another for a book/radio.

I posted this in another thread but I thought it may fit here as well:

This is a possible storage solution I may try:

Tying a string that is slightly longer than my tarps ridgeline from one ridgeline tieout to the other. When the tarp is hung this line would hang under the tarp and would serve as a place to hang stuff. I think I would only leave one end tied one the tarp is packed up this way if I tie the tarp to the trees but leave it in the skins for a quick setup in case of rain I would still have my hand storage line. Any thoughts?

Sounds about the same as what I am getting at. Wonder if it would put a lot of stress on the tarp or if the force would be transfered onto the tarp tie-out lines?

Yeah good point. Maybe one of the engineer/physicists can provide some insight.
