    Fall Temps

We are finally having Fall temperatures and from what I'm seeing the predicted temps for next week will range from 61-68 during the day and in the low 50's at night. Just 30% chance of scattered showers so far though.

It'll be a great raffle, Cakes. I was fortunate to win a copy of Derek's book at the last Mt. Rogers Winter Hang. Being a noob at the time, it really helped me understand things and get me started. BTW, looking forward to seeing your tin of "fire magic." (I even made some charcoal myself a couple weeks ago!)

Here is my suggestion for the Raffle proceeds...
I talked with the HF mods to get their thoughts. They told me the same basic thing as last year... HF's operating expenses are covered so we agreed that it would be a good gesture to use all the raffle funds to support the local trail organizations, making the donation 'on behalf of the members of HF'.

So I propose that the raffle proceeds continue to go to Friends Of Grayson Highlands State Park (FOGHSP).

GHSP is one of the nicest, well maintained state parks I've been in. Even with limited resources, the park staff, along with volunteers like FOGHSP, do a great job maintaining the park as well as the back country were you find quite a few miles of the AT.

The HF mods & myself agree that supporting the local care takers of our hiking & hammocking lands is the best way to use the raffle funds.

Last year we paid for the group site out of the raffle proceeds, but because of our contribution to the festival with the Hammock Demo, the rangers of GHSP are letting us use the group site for free this year.

    Well, I'm confirming my attendance

However, Ms 2 New Lungs and Pryo (my wife and 5 year old) unfortunately read the same backpacker article referenced above, and aren't too keen on windy & cold, so it'll just me me myself and I. They're strictly warm-weather hangers, even though that hasn't worked out too well for them, lol.

I'll plan on bringing all my stuff, including my daughter's DIY hammock, bugnet, and hillbilly quilts, my DIY winter quilt, 3 tarps (a BMJ, SF, and Guide Gear), Tyvek tarps doors, etc. for the demos.

As far as cookware, My coleman 2-burner will come along, and I can bring my Weber grill (it was nice to have at MAHHA this spring) along with charcoal.

With food, I'll have to do some brainstorming.

I'll plan on arriving in the early afternoon on Friday, and staying 'til Sunday. I'll throw it all on the spreadsheet. It'll be good to get out again after being busy with other things all summer and meet some new people!

I went ahead and created a Google+ event for this as well. For those of you with Android (and possibly other) phones, if you add the event to your calendars, you can use your phone to automatically navigate you there

I agree with SlowHike's proposal on the raffle.

Nice to hear from you again, USMCStang!!! It's been a long while.

Home Run, no response on what you'd like us to toss in for Saturday's dinner?

LD Cakes, I just knew you'd figure a way to be there, hooray!
