So, does that mean the gross grain makes sturdy enough tie outs to stand the test of time, or should I go with some kind of nylon or polyester strap? Would scraps from the silnylon work?

The grosgrain is still going strong. The only issue I've found is the d-ring sometimes wants to spin around in the loop, but not a real problem.
Yes, it's sturdy enough. Nylon will be thicker. No I would not use scraps of silnylon for tie outs. I don't think it would be as strong.
Thanks! I don't use it much, since I got a Superfly. Being made of PU and not silnylon, it's a bit on the heavy side for backpacking at 27 oz. but I'll hang on to it to loan out, since it's something I made and has a certain personal value.
