    Ground tarp...

I need a small tarp, to keep my stuff on. Or put my feet on, Sometimes I just dont want put my boots to stand up and stretch, or tweak my suspension. I would like something darker colored. All my gear is that of a stealthy camper, or I would just use some tyvek.. Suggestions?

I have an old SpinnSheet ground cloth I got from Gossamer Gear many years ago. It's made of spinnacker fabric and is kind of "crispy" when you first get it but gets more pliable and quiet with age. It's very dark purple, much stealthier than tyvek.

I'm planning to use my new Silnylon rain skirt as a double use as a small ground cloth and rain protection, sil comes in many colors. My skirt is navy blue.

The smallest cheap dark green poly tarp from Wally world, unless you are concened about weight.
We are now ready to start our way down the Great Unknown. We are three quarters of a mile in the depth of the earth. We have an unknown distance yet to run, an unknow river yet to explore. What falls there are, we know not; what rocks beset the channel, we know not; what walls rise over the river, we know not. Ah, well! We may conjecture many things. The men talk as cheerfully as ever; jests are bandied about freely this morning; but to me the cheer is somber and the jests are ghastly. Powell 1869

I used to make kites out of Tyvek (both types - 10 and 14), and it took paints really well, absorbed right into the fibers. Sharpie markers also work really well on Tyvek, so it's probably worth trying fabric dyes on it. I've been looking for a source for plain Type 10 (housewrap without the logos). For a ground tarp I think in addition to coloring it I'd try soaking it in Permethrin.

I carry 2 garbage bags with in my pack, one as a pack liner and the other I use as a ground cloth.
