I have 2 incubators with the same configuration as yours. I wound up making my own mods based on many of the comments above. I used a soldering iron to melt small holes in each end of the side channels and ran 1/8" shock cord down the length. I tied the foot end off to the loops for the line locks and installed cord locks at the head end. I also upgraded the suspension to 1/8".

I will be testing it out next week.

Be good to here how it goes Sky.

I have pm'd Adam and am awaiting a reply.
Just want to be sure I am doing the right thing before I take to them with a soldering iron. I have never seen any of the other older hammock gear suspension versions first hand (i'm in Australia, not many here) so just wanting to confirm that any changes I make are correct.

I will post a report after my trip. I figure if Adam comes up with a better design, there's nothing I changed that can't be undone. Except for the holes perhaps.

If you're up for it, add the Dutch clips to your hammock. No weight penalty and I've never had a better UQ fit. Good luck!

    Body,

Are you using the quilt hooks on just the corners of the quilt, so just 4 hooks per hammock clipping onto the quilt suspension, or do you fit more along each side of the hammock and actually clip onto the quilt somehow?

Swampy, the mods are very easy. You'll find that the grossgrain along the outside edges is folded over & sewn to the UQ. If you look at the end, you'll find that there's a piece of shock cord that runs across. It comes out of the gross grain & through a cord lock.

The old version had a piece of shock cord running all the way down the gross grain along one side, up through an "S" biner & then back down the gross grain to the other end, where the two pieces were then put together with a square knot. Another "S" biner was used to attach it to the hammock suspension.

The ones that you have only have shock cord attached to the ends. I had a couple like this. These are the ones that I modified with the partial shock cord down the sides in my earlier posts.

As far as hooking the hammock & UQ together, you'll find that if you use a full length shock cord (the 'down & back' method) & you string it tight, it will pull up the UQ enough to cradle around the hammock. If you want points to keep a corner from moving off, then you'll find that Adam & Jenny sewed in 4 gross grain 'loops' down each side & one on either end. You can put a dutchclip or minibiner through these to hook the UQ to the hammock, if needed.

Check out my gallery for some various photos & you'll see the different suspensions. You can mix & match or create something entirely new.

    Swampy,

When I was asking him some questions for a review I wrote on another site I recall Adam sharing with me that the shock cord is cut to a 14 ft (4.27 m) length. This is in the even you do mod the quilt by running a single piece through the gross gain channels.

Healthy, free, the world before me,
The long brown path before me, leading wherever I choose.

    Thanks for the advice guys.
Hopefully I'll get a chance to test out some ideas on one underquilt this weekend.

Wow, what a great thread! I am anxiously awaiting my 40 degree 3/4 Pheonix with 1 extra ounce of down. I can't wait to see what Adam has come up with after all the discussion on the old and new suspension. I sure hope it arrives tomorrow or Friday for my weekend adventure!
