Trust me after 23 years of married, my wife finally gave up. Heck she even offered to buy me a new computer the other day. Your best offense is to get your future wife hooked to.

Good for you, I think you should just start out slow. Set a budget and don't budge. Most members start out small. If you start out small then there's small regret.
Don't be surprised if the first couple of times are not comfortable. Your body is not used to the hammock and thinks something weird is going on. Set it up in the yard and get accustomed to it before taking it out on a trip. I think you will love it once you get a little experience with it. Don't get discouraged with all the gear babble either, you really don't need much. Your hammock will come with all you need. The gear bling can be added later if you want to. They can cause marital stress though. I lay down in mine for a few minutes about 2:30 this afternoon and didn't wake up until 6:40. She wasn't home until 7:00, close shave.
"To turn from this increasingly artificial and strangely alien world is to escape from unreality. To return to the timeless world of the mountains, the sea, the forest and the stars is to return to sanity and truth." --Robert Burnham Jr.
Get the wife to be involved. Twice as expensive but easier to get new gear. Now, if I could just get mine convinced that camping isn't going to a hotel, hehe.
I felt the same way...if a certain red headed feller hadnt of swooped in accidentally on my very first hang and helped me with my set up, I would have surely looked like a fool in front of a bunch of dudes I didnt know. It takes time to learn new things...glad you came to your senses though, the trees welcome you with open limbs. It's almost like their little limbs are like arms, reaching out to embrace you, and then they gently rock you to sleep. I love, love, love sleeping in trees.
Ps. Nice choice with the edge, I have it, used it a lot. It's a nice little tarp, and for the size the coverage is exceptional.
Congrats.

Never sell a hammock. That's my motto.
I've given a few away as gifts, but sell a hammock? Never!!!!
Trust nobody!
I've only got 2 married(11 dating) years under my belt, but I concur with those who said get her interested too. Easier to get new gear, and if you are great friend as well as lovers you will never be without company on a hangout unless you want to.
This thread is an interesting read. 1st marriage 13yrs. This time around 16yrs & stopped counting.
Cannibal! ha very true. BUT I have a grandfather clause. for items owned prior if item gets sold it can go back into toy kitty.

seriously -- hope you find what you're looking for the second time around. Good luck on your first hang. All ya need is a piece of material, some rope & 2 trees. If too frustrating at first KISS.
If your new bride doesn't enjoy the hobby IMO thats ok too. I have hobbies my other 1/2 has hobbies and/or groups involved with. When we meet in the middle we have something to share & talk about with each other.
