I got these rings at Tractor Supply for .99 or 1.09 a piece

They are 1 1/2 outside diameter
    1 1/4 inside diameter.

They are in the horse saddle and bridle section. I've used them on two of my DIY hammocks. They've held my son(195lb) & I(230lb) so far without any problems yet

They seem to be solid rings.

IMO... if you go with those rings make very sure that your webbing is top notch. I say that because I also have the $1 cheapo's on my setup and they do work fine. However they tend to slip like the kickens and I have traced some of that slip to cheapo wally world webbing. I am going to replace that stuff with some strapworks. The rings don't give me any concern for strength, but I am waiting for some additional supples to install the SMC rings I aquired from a kind friend.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I have some welded steel rings from ACE that are rated at 250 pounds, so I haven't been using them until someone else told me it worked for them. Ever since, I have used these rings with no problems at all. Warbonetguy was supposedly experimenting with some even lighter welded steel rings (lighter than the SMC rings by quite a bit), but I have not heard how that is going.

RamblinRev, have you tried some of the cheap webbing on the SMC rings? Would that slip, as well? My harbor freight webbing slips, but I just tie a slippery half hitch behind the rings. No big deal...

No. I had some from ACE hardware. They were welded steel rings. But they were rated to 250 pounds, like the ones you brought up.

Why not give them a try with a crash pad underneath you, and report back your findings?!

I got my rings at ACE as well have been using them for a while now with no problems. I always just tie a slip knot behind the rings and have not had any problems with slippage.

I have not tried the cheapo webbing with the SMC rings. But I need to replace that webbing anyway. It is taking on the appearence of wrinkled cheese cloth and stretches like a bicycle inner tube under load. I am seriously concerned about its durability.

What I wonder is whether the small stock diameter provides less bite on the webbing and therefore more slippage. The metal stock diameter of the SMC's is visibly larger.

I tie the safety as well and there is still a certain amount of slippage. I also need to get some weight rated biners for the huggers.

    Hey Rev

How long have you had the cheapie webbing on your hammock? I've been using the cheapie rings and webbing awhile now without any slippage or stretching. Is this something that happens eventually with all the cheapie webbing?

    Thanks Baerman

Not very long at all.... this stuff is made of "olefin" which is a synthetic loosely related to the polyesters but not identical. If I knew then what I know now I would not have bought it. I just ordered some HWT polypro webbing from Strapworks. I know its not the seatbelt webbing but it was only 17 cents a foot instead of 38.

Bah! Unecessary precautions. When I was coming up with my setup I had a lot of stuff that I was unsure about. I just set it up and told my mom to get in and see how comfortable it was. Then I would step back and hope she didn't fall. That way if it does fail you can personally see what happened and have a better idea of how to fix it. Of course the key is to not tell them that it is untested and questionable. Otherwise they will either not get in, or be really careful and you won't get an accurate test.
