What is the ideal hammock length?

Speer's book suggests two feet longer than the person (not including the length of material necessary for the knots) is ideal for a DIY hammock. What do you all think?

I use an ENO DoubleNest, which is 10' long. Probably longer than I really need, but the extra comfort is well worth it.

I use 10.5 feet, I love the extra room. It allows me to sleep in whatever way I want.

I just made a hammock that is 12' (144") by ~ 58". I have been making my speer style hammocks about 10' long, and was wondering if the extra length would make a difference. One thing I like about the extra length and width is the ability to really exaggerate my diagonal laying position to near perpendicular. This is very comfy.

That said, my 10' hammock is also very comfy with me laying at a less extreme diagonal position. This is also a more narrow hammock, probably around 50". I am not sure how much of an advantage this extra length and width is for me, but for bigger (and longer) folks, it may be welcome!

Now, by 10' "speer style hammock" do you mean the length between the knots, the usable length, or the fabric overall?
