    Found some $1 ripstop camo!

I lucked out yesterday! Went to a Walmart that I visited last over a month ago and they had a bolt of uncoated woodland camo ripstop. 14 yards. I bought the whole thing. The ladies said it came in the day before and they knew it wouldn't last.

They also had a bolt of heavier non-ripstop woodland camo, probably 3 oz/sq.yd. (estimated), maybe taffeta, but I have enough fabric of that type so I didn't get it.

I may try making a tarp and use a dilute silicone coat or two to waterproof it. Or who knows what. Until I make the first cut, the possibilities are endless.

Good score, you can have alot of fun with 14 yards. Let us know how waterproofing it works.

Thanks, Dutch! It may be a while though.

It's 66 inches wide and roughly 1.1 oz/square yard. I knew from looking that it was at least 60 inches, I'm pleased with the extra.

Sounds like it would be good for a double layer hammock.

Yeah, it's been pretty scare lately. I keep looking but haven't found any in a while. I did find some real light and strong sheer mesh that I'm going to try out as netting. Good luck and don't stop looking.

I travel all over upstate ny for my business and use wally world as my rest stop/ bathroom breaks. At this time I have on hand about 1400 yards of $1 ripstop. I am a scoutmaster and have gotten about a 1/4 my boys into "hanging around". Next weekend I have a patrol activity where we are going to sew hammocks and tarps. I guess it's my being self employed, but I can't use someone's facilities without feeling like I need to make a purchase, albeit most times a small one. (Even from such a nice company as Wal-mart)

Wow, that's $1400 worth of ripstop. You sure are dedicated. I hope your scouts enjoy making and using their hammocks.

FeO2, sending luck your way. Keep on looking!

Big-E, wow, that's really great! What a great scout leader. I'm just trying to make equipment for 2 or 3 of my kids, the ones who are young enough to not have other obligations, and that's quite a challenge. If you ever go past Tioga Downs on I-86 (aka State Route 17) between Elmira and Binghamton, I grew up about 7 miles from there. Gorgeous country!
