Check out this awesome sleeping bag. I'm sure half of you have already seen it, but it would certainly be nice to use in a hammock! Anyone have a spare $600.00?

This is my signature.
Interesting design. Kind of like the exped wall creeper bags. But these have arms and a hood. Something to consider when I finally get around to making my own quilt.
I wonder. You could make it without the hood to save a little weight. Maybe more insulation on the top side if you are a back sleeper. Definitly has some potential.

Not enough flexibility (range) for changing conditions. Look at their ARC 3/4 w/ a down sweater / jacket.
I considered making something like the Raku with a zipper down the front to middle leg. In theory, I should be able to open the zipper and use the coat as a quilt with a footbox in temps that would make the standard use too warm.
I was thinking about this today. It is going to be a while before I can do this project but that doesn't stop me from designing and planning.
How about taking an insulated jacket (down or syn) and sewing a zipper around the bottom edge that goes around your waist. Then sewing a big tube that is long enough to go from the jacket bottom to past your feet. Then sew a drawstring on one end of the tube and a mating end to the jacket on the other end. Basically combining the liner that Hana H. posted along with the 3/4 quilt and down sweater ideas. Warmer than the liner and easier to keep in place than the quilt/sweater combo.
You could wear the jacket alone, the jacket/tube with the tube open and be able to walk around, jacket/tube with the jacket unzipped as a quilt, or the jacket/tube as a sleeping bag.
This could in the warmer months take the place of a jacket/fleece layer, quilt, and possibly long underwear bottoms. Saving weight and multi-use.
Definitly something I need to make after my hike.

make that a double zip mating, otherwise "jacket-open-as-quilt(+footbox)" is going to be a bit restricted.

gram counter, not gram weenie!
Good point.
I was thinking about that a similar problem. If you try to walk around in it you will not be able to take full steps b/c off the quilt tube part not being wide enough. I was thinking of instead of a tube make it open up flat and close to tube shape with velcro. Act like the slit in a dress so to speak. Man I have some DIY issues.
This is still a ways out, plenty of time to tweak the design.

this brings me back to the wearable quilt idea. i want to make another one w/ improvements & maybe insulated w/ down.
a big question for me now is... how risky is it to be sleeping w/ a long zipper between you & the hammock?
I too will something make and joy in it's making
I thought about a wearable quilt. I just thought having a jacket that converted into a quilt gave me more options.
I use my sleeping bag as a quilt with the zipper usually underneath me. A little different than what you are asking though.
