Talking Nite Ize S-biner size # .5 (stainless!)

So today @ REI i saw a size # .5 set of stainless S- Biners. They were not on REI's website. They did not have a price tag. They were on Nite Ize's page, but notta on amazon. I was jazzed to see a smaller metal S-biner and figured this crew would be all over em, anybody play with em much yet?

It feels silly to spend $4 on two of something so small.

if this is old news, mods delete away.

You have to buy the Key ring version with the #.5 S-Biners on it. There are 6 on the loop for $9. So if my math serves me right it would be $1.5 per instead of $2. I found mine at Dicks sporting goods in Michigan so I didn't have to worry about shipping.

I don't know the rating but I did put them on my summer and winter tarps. They have been on the winter tarp for 4 nights so far I will have to see what the future holds for them. So far they seem to have less stretch than the #1 size.

I don't remember the weight of them off the top of my head.

This is still a new product for Niteize I think.

Key ring ones are plastic though right? These guys were in their own package.

why the #.5? i mean the next size up in the two pack, comes in at 1.5$ each. that's half of the list price of the .5's!!! and being larger it'll be a bit easyer to use. i have quite a few of the plastic .5's and they break if you just look at 'em wrong.

O weight rating, but they've gotta be stronger than the nylon ones... would be interesting for tarps as a fail safe connector.

I"ve got a bunch of them have been using them for a variety of applications, the only ones that have managed to break are the ones that I used for load to failure testing. I found they break at just under 35#. I read that a lot of folks break them when using to attach tarp to ridgeline which is just too much load for these little guys.

See on the left of the attached pic, I found a way to use them reliabley in a prusik shackle to hang my tarps by looping the shackle back on itself which divides the load in half. I haven't load/fail tested them in this arrangement but I'd hope for near 70#. I have had them in some pretty high winds though. On the right is a traditional soft shackle prusik with a Dutch Ridgeline Biner.
