Yeah, that's what we need, a UL model of this baby!
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us....that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.

The thing I don't get on this is how they make it so flat from side to side without having it feel tippy.

It does seem an UL version would be possible.

    Old Version:

Multiple Panels of fabric sewn together
Came as complete package (top/bug net/hammock)
No second layer / pad pocket

    tent top was orange/yellow

I had one for a while, just to see what it was like.
My guess is that it is less tippy than expected because of comparatively big suspension triangles. The principle axis of rotation is the line between the tops of the two suspension triangles. Bigger triangles raise that line. Tippyness depends on the distance between the center of mass and the axis of rotation.

The long spreader bars and and longer distance from end to end argue for the built-in custom cover...otherwise a really big tarp is needed.

I concur on the feasibility of a lightweight version.

Have you been in one? I tried Gumbo's last year at Grayson Highlands and it felt really tippy to me. But I don't lay still all night when I'm sleeping, I'm all over the place!

I changed out the suspension on mine, and I don't think it feels anymore tippy. It felt tippy to me a first, but once I got used to it, it felt fine. I toss and turn a lot when I sleep also, and I never felt like I was going to fall out. I really love the lay of this hammock. I still have to weigh just the hammock with the new suspension, to see if it will be light enough to backpack without the cover. I want to make a Fronkey bug net for it. I would also like to get lighter poles.

Got it yesterday and set it up last night at work. I see what the professor was saying about the triangles making it less tippy. All in all I like it. Not a hiking hammock but very good car camping one. My daughter will love it. Only problem is it takes up a lot of storage room. I need a fourth bin for my hammocks now.
