    you could get mason's twine at HD. I'm sure there are plenty of other "cords" at HD that would work just fine.

    Whipping is not load-bearing, so almost anything works. I like to use mason's line.

    I do put a dab of silicone adhesive under it, as insurance to keep it from sliding off. I had one experience when a larkshead pulled the whipping off the end of the hammock. THUMP. Ouch.

    coarser weaves or twine is less slippery and prone to that, I would think.

    Walmart usually has Coleman Utility Cord that should work well.

    If the end has a hem, the extra bulk should keep this from happening.

    I don't use type III para cord, but i would imagine that it makes the rope thinner. Thinner rope can be tightened far tighter imho. I use type I para cord, and leave it intact.
