from NiteIze will work, if it is a thumb-size hitching post you want. No abrasion. Just use them is such way you are not trying to tear off any of the four ears. That requires threading line through the hole that runs through the length of the body (not illustrated here).
The fraying you are experiencing is either a shortcoming of the Figure 9 -- overly aggressive -- or of the line. Good cordage gets run through sailing hardware. Nobody can afford to replace line that expensive. I won't be pleased if my Glowire doesn't hold up. Too expensive per length not to have a tough cover.
Your problem also points to what makes line-loks quality devices. The company that makes them serves and industry and knows the characteristics of rope.
